RICH DOUGHNUTS 
1 c. sugar
3 tbsp. shortening
3 eggs
1 c. milk
4 1/2 c. sifted flour
4 1/2 tsp. baking powder
1 tsp. grated nutmeg
1 tsp. salt

Cream shortening, add sugar, cream well; add eggs, one at a time, and beat well, then milk, and sifted dry ingredients alternately. Roll on a bread board to 1 1/4 inches thick, cut and fry in deep fat. A little lemon juice added will keep doughnuts from taking up grease.
