SWEDISH HORNS
4 c. flour
1/2 tsp. salt
1 1/4 c. shortening
1 (2 oz.) pkg. of cake yeast
3 egg yolks
1 tsp. vanilla
1 c. sour cream

Combine flour, salt and shortening as for pie dough; add crumbled yeast, egg yolks (sugar if needed) vanilla and sour cream. Knead until smooth. Divide into 6 balls. Roll each ball into a circle on board sprinkled with extra sugar making dough as thin as possible.

MIXTURE INGREDIENTS:

3 egg whites
1 c. sugar
1 tsp. vanilla
1 c. chopped walnuts

Make mixture by combining egg whites, vanilla and sugar. Whip mixture until egg whites peak adding sugar to make thicker as necessary. Fold in chopped walnuts. Spread egg white mixture evenly on circle of dough. Cut dough into pie shaped pieces and roll toward center like butter horns. Bake 20 to 30 minutes at 350 degrees. Makes 4 to 5 dozen.

Any expert should try this recipe. It is truly delicious!! This is my Grandmother's specialty. Whenever there is a family gathering, Grandma gets up at 6 a.m. that morning just to make them fresh for us. (Grandma is never to attend a family gathering without bringing Swedish Horns - standing family rule #3).
