GERMAN BUTTER COOKIES 
4 sticks sweet butter
1 1/3 c. sugar
1 pkg. vanilla sugar
5 egg yolks
1 c. finely ground nuts
4 c. sifted flour

Mix butter, sugar, vanilla sugar, and egg yolks well. Add nuts, then flour. Let dough cool in refrigerator until workable to roll out or put through a cookie press. Let cool again before baking. Bake at 325 degrees until lightly browned.

This is a great recipe. I remember eating these cookies as a child when my friend's grandmother made them. We had a lot of German immigrants in our neighborhood and this recipe is the closest I've found to the traditional Buttergebäck they used to make. My family loves these and they are the first cookies to go when I take tins home for Christmas. Thanks for sharing this recipe! :)
