GRANDMA JUDD'S DOUGHNUTS 
1 c. sugar
2 tbsp. butter
2 eggs
1 tsp. cinnamon
1 tsp. nutmeg
1 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. baking powder
1 tsp. salt
1 c. buttermilk (or 1 c. milk + increase butter to 5 tbsp.)
About 4 c. flour

Cream sugar and butter, add eggs and mix well. Add buttermilk and flour. Do not over work the dough or it will be tough. Roll out on floured board. Drop in hot lard to fry. As soon as they come to the top, turn them. Turn them twice more. Take out of grease and allow to drain on wire racks.
