REFRIGERATOR BRAN MUFFINS 
1 c. boiling water
2 1/2 tsp. baking soda
1/2 c. shortening
3/4 c. sugar
2 egg
3 1/2 c. unifine flour or reg.
1 tsp. salt
2 c. All Bran cereal (Nabisco 100% Bran or Kellogg Bran Buds)
2 c. buttermilk
1 c. chopped dates
1 c. chopped nuts

Mix water and soda, set aside to cool. Cream shortening, sugar and eggs, add flour and salt to water mixture. Stir in cereal and milk. (May use sour milk or milk soured with 2 tablespoons vinegar.) Fold in dates and nuts.

Batter will keep in refrigerator 6 weeks in a covered container if plain, and three weeks if nuts and dates are added. Bake at 375 degrees for 15 to 20 minutes.
