GERMAN RED CABBAGE 
1/2 c. shortening
1 onion, diced
1 apple, diced
2 to 3 lb. red cabbage, sliced
1 c. sugar
3 bay leaves
dash of cinnamon
1 tbsp. salt
1 tsp. pepper
dash of cloves
1/2 c. white vinegar
2 c. beef stock

Melt shortening in large saucepan over low heat. Add remaining ingredients. Simmer 30 to 40 minutes, turning two or three times.

Serves 8 to 10.

This is a holiday recipe. Also adds nice color.
