2 c. sugar
1/2 c. melted shortening
4 c. plain flour
1 lb. raisins
1 tsp. vanilla
1 tsp. nutmeg
1 tsp. cloves
1 tsp. baking powder
1 c. chopped nuts
1 egg
2 c. unsweetened applesauce
2 tsp. baking soda
1 pinch salt

Mix all ingredients in order given in large bowl. Pour into greased and floured 10 inch tube pan. Bake in 300 degree oven for 1 1/2 hours. Garnish top with red and green maraschino cherries and additional nuts, if desired.
