BLACKBERRY PINWHEEL COBBLER
2 c. sugar
2 c. water
1/2 c. butter
1/2 c. shortening
1 1/2 c. self-rising flour
1/3 c. milk
1 tsp. ground cinnamon (optional)

Combine sugar and water in saucepan; stir well. Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly until sugar dissolves. Set aside.

Place butter in a 13x9x2 inch baking dish in a 350 degree oven for 3 minutes or until butter melts. Set aside. Cut shortening into flour just until dry ingredients are moistened; add milk.

Turn out onto a lightly floured surface and knead lightly 4-5 times. Roll dough into a 12x9 inch rectangle. Spread berries over dough; sprinkle with cinnamon. Roll up jelly roll fashion, beginning with long side. Cut dough into 12 (1 inch) slices; place slices cut-side down in butter. Pour sugar syrup around slices; bake at 350 degrees for 55-60 minutes or until golden brown. Yield: 12 servings.
