OLD FASHIONED STRAWBERRY
SHORTCAKE
 
2 c. flour
4 tsp. baking powder
1/2 tsp. salt
1 tbsp. sugar
1/2 c. shortening
3/4 c. milk
Strawberries or other fruit

Wash your hands. Mix dry ingredients and work in shortening with the fingers of knife. Gradually add enough milk to make a soft dough, mixing with a knife. Toss the dough down onto a floured board and tap and roll to 1/2 inch thickness. Bake in sheets for a large shortcake, or cut with a biscuit cutter for individual short cakes.

Bake at 450-460 degrees for 12-15 minutes. When done split open, butter layers and put crushed sweetened fruit between layers and on top. Put back for a few minutes in oven that has been turned off.
