BUTTER COOKIES 
2 sticks butter
1 1/2 c. confectioners' sugar
1 egg
1 tsp. lemon flavoring
2 1/2 c. plain flour
1 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. cream of tartar
1/3 tsp. salt

Cream butter, add sugar gradually, cream until fluffy. Add unbeaten egg, beat well. Sift together dry ingredients, blend into cream mixture. Drop (about 1 teaspoon) onto cookie sheet. Bake 8 minutes at 400 degrees. (Good cookie to decorate with cherry, nut and sprinkles on top before baking.)
