OATMEAL COOKIES 
1/2 c. shortening
1/2 c. brown sugar
1/2 c. white sugar
1 egg, beaten
1 tbsp. water
1 1/4 c. (or less) chocolate chips
1/2 tsp. vanilla
1/2 tsp. vanilla
3/4 c. sifted flour
1/2 tsp. baking soda
1/2 tsp. salt
1 1/2 c. oatmeal (uncooked)

Cream shortening and sugar. Add egg, water, and vanilla. Then add sifted dry ingredients, rolled oats, and chips. Chopped nutmeats, chopped raisins, or shredded coconut may be used in place of chips. Drop from teaspoon onto greased baking sheet. Bake at 375 degrees for 10 to 15 minutes.
