FRIED TOMATOES AND TOMATO GRAVY 
Select firm, red tomatoes that are not quite ripe. Wash and slice. Season on both sides with salt and pepper. Flour on both sides and fry in hot fat at 325 degrees until both sides are brown. Remove from fat; sprinkle with sugar. Brown flour in hot fat and add water when flour mixture is brown. Mix the water in flour mixture until smooth. Add about 4 or 5 slices of the fried tomatoes or more to taste.

After tomatoes have been added, let come to a boil. Season with salt and pepper to taste; add about 1/2 cup milk.
