BRAISED RED CABBAGE 
2 lb. red cabbage
1 med. white onion, sliced
2 Granny Smith apples; peeled, cored & thinly sliced
1/2 c. dry red wine
1/4 c. packed brown sugar
1 tsp. salt
1/2 tsp. pepper
2 tbsp. butter, cut in sm. pieces

Remove core and cut cabbage into 1/4 inch thick slices. In a large saucepan combine cabbage with onion, apples, wine, sugar, salt and pepper. Cover, bring to a boil, lower heat and simmer 20 minutes, stirring two or three times. Ad butter and stir until melted. Makes 6 to 8 servings.
