4 c. sifted flour
1 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. salt
1 c. shortening
2 c. brown sugar, packed
2 eggs
2/3 c. buttermilk
1 c. chopped pecans
1 c. candied cherries, quartered or halved
2 c. dates, quartered
1 c. mixed candied fruit

Sift flour together with soda, salt. Cream shortening with sugar, until light and fluffy. Beat in eggs one at a time. Add milk and flour alternately. Stir in nuts, candy cherries, dates and fruit. Chill dough, drop by teaspoon full about 2 inches apart on greased cookie sheet. Top with cherry or nut and bake at 375 degrees for 8 to 10 minutes.
