OLD - FASHIONED RAISIN BARS | |
2 c. all-purpose flour 1 tsp. baking soda 1 tsp. ground cinnamon 1 tsp. ground nutmeg 1/4 tsp. ground cloves 1 c. raisins 1/2 c. shortening or cooking oil 1/2 c. granulated sugar 1/2 c. honey 1 egg, slightly beaten 3/4 c. walnuts, chopped Powdered sugar Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Grease a 15 x 10 x 1 inch baking pan. Stir together flour, soda, cinnamon, nutmeg, cloves, and 1/4 teaspoon salt. In a 2-quart saucepan, combine raisins, shortening or oil and 1 cup water. Bring to boiling, remove from heat; cool 10 minutes. Stir in sugar, honey and egg. Add dry ingredients to raisin mixture. Stir until smooth. Stir in walnuts. Turn into greased pan. Bake for 8 to 10 minutes. Cool on a wire rack. Sift powdered sugar on top. Cut into bars. Makes about 72. |
