MISSISSIPPI MUD BARS 
1/2 c. shortening
1 c. sugar
1 whole egg
2 eggs, separated
1 1/2 c. flour
1 tsp. baking powder
1/4 tsp. salt
1 c. nuts, chopped
1/2 c. semi-sweet chocolate pieces
1 c. miniature marshmallows
1 c. brown sugar

Blend shortening and sugar. Add whole egg and 2 egg yolks. Stir in flour, baking powder, and salt. Spread in greased and floured 9 x 12 inch cake pan. Sprinkle with nuts, chocolate pieces, and marshmallows. Beat egg whites, adding the brown sugar gradually. Spread over batter and bake at 350 degrees for 30 to 40 minutes.

FROSTING:

1/2 c. butter
1 lb. powdered sugar
1 tsp. vanilla
1/3 c. cocoa
1/2 c. milk
1/2 c. nuts (optional)
