BUTTER TARTS 
1 1/2 c. flour
1/2 tsp. salt
1/2 tsp. baking soda
1/2 c. shortening
1/3 c. ice water

Mix pastry ingredients and roll 1/8 inch thick. Cut into 4 inch rounds and press into cupcake pans.

FILLING:

1 egg, well beaten
1/3 c. butter
1 c. brown sugar
2 tbsp. milk
1/2 c. raisins or currants
1 tsp. vanilla

Mix together and pour into crusts. Bake at 450 degrees for 8 minutes. Reduce to 350 degrees and bake 15-20 minutes or until pastry is golden. Makes 12-15.
