Preheat oven at 350 degrees. Grease and flour 9 x 13 pan.

1 c. brown sugar
1 c. white sugar
1 c. oil or butter
1 c. chopped dates
1 tsp. cinnamon
1 tsp. cloves
1 tsp. salt
2 c. hot water
3 c. flour
1 1/2 tsp. baking soda in 2 tbsp. water
1 c. chopped nuts

In a large pan mix together the first 8 eight ingredients and bring to boil. Boil 1 minute. Cool to lukewarm, then beat in 3 cups flour, 1 1/2 teaspoon baking soda in 2 tablespoons water, 1 cup chopped nuts. Pour into greased and floured 9 x 13 inch pan. Bake 45 minutes, frost as desired.
