1/2 c. shortening
3/4 c. brown sugar
1/4 c. dark Karo syrup
1 egg
2/3 c. flour
1/4 tsp. salt
1/2 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. vanilla
1 c. oatmeal
Nuts & raisins (opt.)
Powdered sugar

Single recipe - 9"x13" pan. Doubled recipe fits well in large cookie sheet pan.

Cream shortening; add sugar and Karo; add remaining ingredients. Mix ingredients well but don't overbeat. Spread in 9"x13" pan (single recipe) or large cookie sheet pan (double recipe). Bake at 350 degrees for 15 to 18 minutes. Cool then frost with powdered sugar icing.
