CANNED DATE BREAD 
2 c. dates
2 tsp. baking soda
1 1/2 c. boiling water
1 1/2 c. sugar
2 tbsp. butter
2 eggs
2 tsp. vanilla
3 1/2 c. flour
1 tsp. salt
1 c. nuts

Mix together the dates, baking soda and boiling water. Let rest for a few minutes.

Blend sugar and butter. Add eggs and vanilla. Add flour sifted with salt and the dates mixture. Mix well. Add nuts.

Pour dough into empty bean or other vegetables. Bake 45 to 60 minutes in moderate oven. Cool. Open the bottom of can with can opener. Bread then slides out easily. Slice and serve.
