WW II CHOCOLATE CAKE 
4 tbsp. sugar
1/2 c. shortening
1 egg
4 rounding tbsp. cocoa (dissolve in hot water to paste consistency)
1/2 tsp. salt
1 tsp. vanilla
1 c. Karo syrup
1 c. hot water with 2 tsp. baking soda stirred in
2 c. flour

In large bowl, mix in order given, mix with mixer until smooth. Bake in greased and floured cookie sheet/jelly roll pan at 350 degrees for 25-30 minutes.

NOTE: Batter will be thin.
