1 c. shortening
1 c. brown sugar
1 c. white sugar
1 c. chopped maraschino cherries
3 eggs
6 tbsp. cherry juice
1 tsp. vanilla
4 c. flour
1 tsp. baking powder
1 tsp. baking soda

Cream together sugars, shortening and cherries. Add eggs and beat well. Add cherry juice and vanilla. Combine flour, baking powder and soda. Add to creamed mixture. Add nuts or coconut. Drop by teaspoon on cookie sheet. Bake at 350 degrees for 10-12 minutes.
