OATMEAL CHOCOLATE CHIP COOKIES 
2 c. shortening
2 c. granulated sugar
1 c. brown sugar
4 eggs
3 1/2 c. flour
2 tsp. salt
2 tsp. baking soda
2 tsp. vanilla
4 c. oatmeal (not instant)
3 c. semi-sweet chocolate chips
1 c. chopped nuts, optional

Mix all ingredients, in order, with a wooden spoon. Drop by spoonful onto ungreased cookie sheet. Bake 7 to 10 minutes (until they begin to brown) at 350 degrees. Makes about 10 dozen cookies.
