BABKA
1 c. milk
1/2 c. sugar
2 tsp. salt
1/2 c. butter
2 packets yeast
1/3 c. water
4 eggs, well beaten
6 to 6 1/2 c. flour

1. Scald milk.

2. Add butter and salt and sugar (less 1 teaspoon).

3. Mix yeast and the teaspoon of sugar in 1/3 cup warm water.

4. Beat eggs in large bowl.

5. Cool milk mixture until tepid and add yeast.

6. Add all to eggs.

7. Add flour and beat 100 strokes with a wooden spoon. Dough will be very sticky. Let rise 1 hour or until doubled.

8. Punch down and knead a 'little'. Let rise 15 minutes.

9. Put in greased tubular pan (1 large or 2 small) and let rise until doubled. Bake at 350 degrees for 50 minutes. After 15 minutes, cover top loosely with a piece of brown paper bag to keep from burning.
