3/4 c. shortening or butter
1 c. sugar
1/4 c. molasses
1 egg
2 tsp. baking soda
2 c. flour
1/2 tsp. cloves
1/2 tsp. ginger
1/2 tsp. salt
1 tsp. cinnamon

Mix egg and butter together. Add sugar, molasses and spices. Stir well! Add flour a bit at a time. Stir after each addition. Form dough into a very large boy on a greased cookie sheet. Add raisin eyes, mouth, and buttons.

Bake 10-15 minutes at 325 degrees. Test for doneness by gently touching with a finger. Slight dent means done! Don't let it run away!
