1 c. warm unsweetened applesauce
1 1/2 c. sugar
3/4 c. shortening
1 egg, beaten
1/4 tsp. salt
1 tsp. baking soda
1/4 tsp. cloves
1/4 tsp. allspice
1/2 tsp. cinnamon
3 1/2 c. flour
1/2 c. nuts (Hickory nuts are delicious)
1/2 c. raisins

Sift together flour, spices and salt. Cream sugar, baking soda, shortening and eggs. Add applesauce. Mix in flour mixture, nuts and raisins. Beat well. Drop by spoonfuls on greased baking sheet. Bake at 400 degrees.
