BUTTER BISCUITS | |
5 c. flour 3 tbsp. sugar 1 tbsp. baking powder 1 tsp. salt 1 tsp. baking soda 1 c. butter 1 env. active dry yeast 1/4 c. lukewarm water 2 c. buttermilk 1 stick melted butter Combine the dry ingredients and sift together into a mixing bowl. Using a pastry blender, cut in the butter until mixture is like coarse meal. Dissolve yeast in warm water. Add to dry ingredients along with the buttermilk. Blend thoroughly. Turn out on lightly floured board and roll or pat into 1/2" thickness. Cut out with round 2 1/2" biscuit cutter. Dip rounds of dough into melted butter or both sides. Put on baking sheet. Bake at 400 degrees for 15 minutes. NOTE: These can be frozen. Place on cookie sheet a short distance apart. Freeze. Remove from baking sheet and store in an air tight bag. This is excellent because you can serve for 2 people or 20. |
