CONGO BARS 
2/3 c. shortening
2 1/4 c. (1 lb.) brown sugar
3 eggs
2 2/3 c. sifted flour
2 1/2 tsp. baking powder
1/2 tsp. salt
1/2 of a small package chocolate bits
1 c. chopped nuts (optional)

Melt shortening in large pan; stir in brown sugar and cool slightly. Beat in eggs, one at a time. Sift together flour, baking powder and salt. Add flour mixture to egg mixture.. Stir in chocolate bits and nuts, if used. Spread into 15x10 inch greased pan. Bake at 350 degrees for 25 to 30 minutes. Makes 3 dozen 2 inch squares.
