SMOTHERED STEAK 
4 measuring tbsp. flour
6 serving pieces round steak
4 c. water
Salt & pepper
Crisco

Cut steak into serving pieces. Salt and pepper each side lightly. Flour each side. Have Crisco melted in a skillet. Don't let the Crisco get hot, only warm. On medium heat brown meat on both sides. Take out and put into the small dark roaster pan with lid.

Brown 4 tablespoons flour in the skillet you browned the meat in. You may have to add a little Crisco to brown the flour. Cook this on medium heat until it is very dark. Pour the flour mixture over the meat and add the water. Cover. Put the roaster in the oven. Cook on 375 degrees until meat is tender and gravy is thick. Cook about 2 hours. Check once or twice during cooking. You can add more water if needed. 4 servings.
