DATE COCONUT BARS 
1/2 c. packed brown sugar
1/4 c. butter
1 c. chopped dates
1 egg, slightly beaten
2 1/2 c. crisp rice cereal
1 c. flaked coconut

In a 3-quart saucepan, combine sugar, butter, dates and egg. Stir over low heat until mixture is slightly thickened and foamy, about 5 minutes; cool. Stir in cereal and coconut. Pack evenly in 8-inch square pan; cool. Cut into bars. Makes 35.
