OVEN SWISS STEAK | |
1 lb. boneless beef steak (minute or round) 4 tbsp. flour 1 tsp. salt 16 oz. stewed tomatoes 1/2 c. chopped celery 1/2 c. chopped carrot 2 tbsp. chopped onion 1/2 tsp. Worcestershire sauce 3 tbsp. shredded American cheese (opt.) Mix flour and salt; pound into meat. Set aside remaining flour. Brown meat. Place in shallow baking dish. Blend remaining flour and drippings in skillet. Add remaining ingredients, except cheese, and cook, stirring constantly until mixture boils. Pour over meat. Cover and bake in moderate, 350 degree, oven for 1 to 2 hours or until meat and vegetables are tender. Sprinkle cheese over meat. Tomato puree or soup may be substituted for the stewed tomatoes. |
