Peel potatoes; cut into 1/4 inch strips as for French frying. Place layers of potatoes in greased casserole. Season with salt, pepper, and butter. Cover and bake at 350 degrees for 1 hour. If desired, remove cover the last 15 minutes of baking and pour light cream over the potatoes.
