HALF MOONS 
3 c. sifted flour
1 tsp. baking powder
1 tsp. baking soda
1/2 tsp. salt
3/4 c. shortening (Crisco)
1 1/2 c. sugar
2 eggs
1 tsp. vanilla
1 c. soured milk (add 1 tbsp. vinegar to regular milk)

Cream shortening and sugar. Beat eggs and vanilla. Add to creamed mixture. Add dry ingredients alternately with soured milk. Drop by tablespoon on cookie sheet. Yield: 2 1/2 dozen. Bake at 375 degrees for 12 to 15 minutes. Cool and frost.

BUTTER FROSTING FOR HALF MOONS:

1 pkg. confectioners sugar
1/4 stick regular butter (room temperature)
1 tsp. vanilla
Milk to moisten and spread on small cakes

Mix till smooth. Melt 1 square of unsweetened chocolate. Set aside. Take 1/2 of frosting and add melted chocolate. Mix well. Frost 1/2 of cake with vanilla and 1/2 with chocolate.
