CHEESE AND HAM STRATA | |
16 slices white bread, crusts removed 1/2 lb. ham, thinly sliced 1/2 lb. cheese, sliced 6 eggs 3 1/2 c. milk 1/2 tsp. salt 1/2 tsp. dry mustard butter Cover bottom of a buttered 9 x 13 casserole with 8 slices of bread. Fit slices closely, trimming if necessary. Place bite-size pieces of ham on bread. Add slices of cheese. Cover with 8 remaining slices of bread. Beat eggs, milk, salt and dry mustard. Pour mixture over sandwich, soaking all bread thoroughly. Cover and refrigerate overnight. Bake uncovered at 325°F for 1 hour or until brown and bubbly. Serve immediately while it is highly puffed. Yields 6 to 8 servings. |
