WHITE RICE BROWNED 
1/2 c. butter
2 c. raw rice
2 1/2 tsp. salt (opt.)
1/4 tsp. pepper
2 cans Campbell beef consomme
2 c. water
1/2 c. slivered almonds or chopped almonds

Melt butter in large fry pan, add rice. Cook over slow fire, stirring; until rice is golden brown. Place in 2 quart casserole, sprinkle on seasonings. (This part can be done ahead if desired.) When ready to bake, add consomme and water. Mix gently, top with nuts and bake at 300 degrees for 1 hour 15 minutes. Do not stir. Serves 10.
