SPONGE CAKE 
2 eggs, separated
1 c. flour
1/2 c. hot milk
1/4 tsp. salt
1 c. sugar
1 tsp. baking powder
1 tbsp. butter
1/2 tsp. vanilla

Beat whites of eggs until stiff; add sugar. Then add yolks which have been well beaten. Then the flour which has been sifted once before measuring with the baking powder and salt. Then add the hot milk with the butter melted in it. Add vanilla.

Bake 1/2 hour at 350 degrees in coffee tin (11 x 7 inch or 8 x 8 inch). This is my mother's and her mother's recipe. This is used for peanut squares or with a caramel frosting or coconut topping.
