PAN IN OVEN | |
This recipe can be for a small or large group depending on your need. It is a family recipe from New Brunswick, Canada. Quantity of ingredients depend on how many you are preparing for. 1. Saute onions and garlic to taste. 2. Add ground meat. Season with salt and pepper to taste. (Meat can be beef or ground turkey washed and drained for low fat.) Place in bottom of casserole or baking pan. 3. Layer cooked spaghetti over the meat. 4. Next, cover spaghetti with canned tomatoes. 5. Cover with mashed potatoes. Rub butter on the potatoes to make the top crisp. 6. Once the layers are complete, bake at 350 degrees for 30 to 45 minutes. The dish should be bubbly when done. I usually cook spaghetti and potatoes ahead of time, then just add to this dish. This is a good dish to fix ahead because it freezes well. If the meat is drained and washed, chill to skim fat and use consomme in the dish. This can be low fat as well as low sodium depending on how it is cooked and what the added ingredients are. |
