GERMAN CHOCOLATE CARAMEL
BROWNIES
 
3/4 stick butter
1 pkg. German chocolate cake mix
1 c. chopped pecans
1 can evaporated milk, divided
1 c. chocolate chips

In a mixing bowl melt 3/4 stick of butter. Add German chocolate cake mix, 1 cup of chopped pecans and 1/3 cup of evaporated milk (reserve remaining 2/3 cup). Mix into a batter.

Spread half of the batter in a greased and floured pan. Bake in a preheated 350°F oven for 8 minutes. Pour melted caramel (see below) over batter (after baked). Sprinkle 1 cup of chocolate chips on top and sprinkle the other half of the batter. Bake at 350°F for 18-20 minutes.

Caramel Filling:

1 pkg. Kraft caramels
2/3 cup evaporated milk (reserved)

Melt one package of Kraft caramels and 2/3 cup of evaporated milk.

I found it almost impossible to "spread" the batter. Wondering if the recipe is a little off on the amount of liquid. I ended up pressing it in with fork & fingers & since the pan was floured the dough broke & left holes.

Hi Jan,

It's possible that your cake mix varies from the one used by the author of the recipe. I would recommend adding a little extra water or milk to your own mixture until you reach the desired consistency.

I have made this for years and found this exasperating! Found after many tries, I out it between 2 pieces of Saran Wrap press it together and piece on with larger pieces. So much faster.
