BEST OATMEAL COOKIES 
1 c. shortening
1 c. brown sugar
1 c. granulated sugar
1 tsp. vanilla
2 eggs
1 2/3 c. flour
1 tsp. baking soda
2 tsp. cinnamon
3 c. rolled oats
1/2 c. nuts
1/2 to 1 c. raisins (optional)

Cream shortening with brown sugar and granulated sugar thoroughly. Add vanilla and eggs; blend well. Stir in flour, soda and cinnamon. Incorporate thoroughly. Add remaining ingredients (rolled oats, nuts and raisins). Drop by rounded teaspoons onto greased cookie sheet. Bake 10 to 15 minutes at 350 degrees. Yield: About 4 to 5 dozen cookies.
