DATE AND NUT BREAD 
1 c. diced dates
3/4 c. chopped nuts
1 1/2 tsp. baking soda
2 tbsp. butter
1 c. hot applesauce
2 eggs
1 1/2 c. flour
1 tsp. vanilla

Place dates, nuts, baking soda, and butter in bowl. Add hot applesauce and let stand about 10 minutes. Beat eggs and vanilla; add flour. Combine mixtures. Pour into well buttered loaf pan and bake in 350 degree oven for 1 hour and 15 minutes or until loaf tests done. Remove from pan and cool thoroughly before slicing.
