SMOKY BACON BURGERS | |
A touch of liquid smoke and a wrapping of bacon gives these burgers an outdoors taste and added juiciness. For 4 servings you will need: 1 lb. very lean ground beef 1 egg 1 c. finely chopped onion 3/4 tsp. salt 1/4 tsp. black pepper 1/2-1 tsp. liquid smoke flavoring 4 slices bacon 4 lettuce leaves 4 tomato slices 4 toasted hamburger buns 1. Combine beef, egg, onion, salt, black pepper and liquid smoke, blending well. Divide into quarters. Shape each quarter into a thick patty. Wrap a strip of bacon around outside of each patty. Hold with a toothpick. 2. Place burgers on oiled broiler rack. Broil 5-6 inches from source of heat for 5-8 minutes on each side or until meat is done to your liking. 3. To serve, put lettuce and tomato on toasted hamburger buns. Top with cooked patties (removing toothpicks first). Tips: You may prepare the meat patties ahead, cover and refrigerate until ready to cook. If desired, patties may be cooked over a charcoal grill. Good served with: Quartered, deep fried, unpeeled potatoes and raw vegetable relishes. For 2 servings: Half of the ingredients. For 8 servings: Double the ingredients. |
