GREAT AMERICAN CHOCOLATE CHIP
COOKIES
 
1 c. butter, softened
3/4 c. sugar
3/4 c. packed light brown sugar
1 tsp. vanilla
2 eggs
2 1/4 c. sifted all-purpose flour
1 tsp. baking soda
1/2 tsp. salt
2 c. (12 oz. pkg.) semi-sweet chocolate chips
1 c. chopped nuts (optional)

Cream butter, sugar, brown sugar, and vanilla until lightly fluffy. Add eggs; beat well. Combine flour, baking soda, and salt. Gradually beat into creamed mixture. Stir in chips and nuts. Drop by teaspoonfuls onto ungreased cookie sheet. Bake at 375 degrees for 8 to 10 minutes or until light brown. Cool. Makes 6 dozen.
