GREAT AMERICAN CHOCOLATE CHIP
COOKIES
 
1 c. butter, softened
3/4 c. sugar
3/4 packed light brown sugar
1 tsp. vanilla extract
2 eggs
2 1/4 c. all purpose flour
1/2 tsp. salt
1 tsp. baking soda
2 c. (12 oz.) Semi Sweet Chocolate Chips
1 c. chopped nuts (optional)

Heat oven to 375 degrees. In large mixer bowl cream butter, sugar, brown sugar, and vanilla until light and fluffy. Add eggs; beat well. Combine flour, baking soda and salt; gradually add to creamed mixture. Stir in chocolate chips and nuts, if desired. Drop by rounded teaspoonsful onto greased cookie sheet. Bake 8 to 10 minutes or until very lightly browned. Cool slightly; remove from cookie sheet onto wire rack. Cool completely. Makes about 6 dozen cookies.

Pan Recipe: Spread batter in greased jelly roll pan, 15 1/2 x 10 1/2 x 1 inch. Bake at 375 degrees for 20 minutes. Cool completely and cut into bars. About 4 dozen bars.
