PATTY'S COLONIAL BREAD 
1/2 c. cornmeal
1/3 c. brown sugar
1/4 c. shortening
1 tsp. salt
2 c. hot water
3/4 c. whole wheat flour
1/2 c. rye flour
1 pkg. yeast
1/2 c. warm water

Put first four ingredients in bowl and pour 2 cups hot water over and stir. Cool to lukewarm. Add whole wheat and rye flour, then the yeast softened in 1/2 cup warm water. Add enough white flour to make a dough you can knead. Knead well and put in greased bowl. Let rise until doubled. Form in loaves and put in greased loaf pans. Bake in 350 degree oven.
