APPLE BARS | |
1 c. flour 1/2 tsp. salt 1/2 tsp. baking soda 1/2 c. brown sugar 1 c. oatmeal 1/2 c. table fat 2 1/2 c. sliced apples 1/4 c. white sugar Sift together flour, salt and soda. Add brown sugar and oatmeal. Cut in shortening until crumbly. Spread half the mixture in a greased 7"x11" baking dish. Add apples and sprinkle with sugar. Add remaining crumb mixture. Bake in a moderate oven, 350 degrees, for 40 to 45 minutes. Cut into bars and serve warm with lemon sauce or cold as a cookie. Yield: 8 desserts of 20 to 24 bars. |
