AUNT MARY LOU'S GERMAN CHOCOLATE
CAKE
 
1 (4 oz.) German sweet chocolate
1/2 c. boiling water
2 c. sugar
1 tsp. vanilla
1 tsp. baking soda
1 c. buttermilk
1 c. butter
4 eggs
2 1/4 c. sifted cake flour
1/2 tsp. salt

Melt chocolate in boiling water. Cool. Cream butter and sugar until fluffy. Add eggs, one at a time, beating well after each. Blend in vanilla and chocolate. Sift flour with soda and salt; add alternately with buttermilk to chocolate mixture, beating after each addition until smooth. Pour into four 9 inch layer pans lined on bottom with paper. Bake at 350 degrees for 30-35 minutes. Cool and frost.

FROSTING:

2 c. Carnation milk
2 c. sugar
5 egg yolks
1/2 c. butter
1 tsp. vanilla
1 c. pecans
1 1/2 c. coconut

Combine milk, sugar, well beaten egg yolks and butter. Cook and stir over medium heat until it begins to thicken, about 12 minutes. Add vanilla, pecans and coconut. Stir occasionally until cool and spread on cake. You will have a good cake and enough calories to kill any horse!!
