GERMAN CHOCOLATE CAKE | |
2 c. sugar 1 pkg. German chocolate 1 tsp. vanilla 1 c. shortening 4 eggs 1 tsp. baking soda 1 c. buttermilk 2 1/2 c. flour Cream shortening and sugar, add eggs, singly. Beat well after each addition. Add half of flour and 3/4 cup buttermilk. Add soda to 1/4 cup buttermilk and add this to rest of flour. Melt chocolate with 1/2 cup water; blend. Add vanilla. Bake in 3 layers at 350 degrees for 25 minutes. FILLING FOR CAKE: 1 c. evaporated milk 1 1/2 c. sugar 4 eggs 1 1/3 sticks butter 1 c. coconut flakes 1 c. pecans Beat eggs slightly, add sugar, stirring. Add coconut and chopped nuts. Spread while hot on cake. |
