DUTCH APPLE PIE | |
7 or 8 tart juicy apples (Winesap) 3 tbsp. butter 3/4 c. sugar 1/2 tsp. cinnamon Unbaked pie shell STREUSEL TOPPING: 3/4 c. plain flour 1/2 tsp. cinnamon 1/3 c. light brown sugar, firmly packed 1/3 c. butter 1. Peel apples, quarter and remove core; cut each quarter into four slices lengthwise. 2. Melt butter in saucepan. Add apples and toss about until each slice is well coated. Add sugar and cinnamon and toss until well coated. Arrange apples compactly in the pie shell. Heap in center. 3. Making streusel - Mix flour and cinnamon and brown sugar. Cream butter until soft and smooth and work in flour mixture until well blended. Sprinkle over apples. 4. Bake at 450 degrees for 20 minutes. Reduce heat to 325 degrees for 30 minutes. |
