MOTHER'S FOUR LAYER CAKE 
CHOCOLATE - 2 LAYERS:

1 1/2 c. sugar
1/2 c. lard or butter
2 eggs
3/4 c. buttermilk
2 1/3 c. cake flour + 1 tsp. baking soda
3 tbsp. cocoa
1 tsp. vanilla
3/4 c. boiling coffee

Mix together and bake in 2 layers at 350 degrees.

WHITE CAKE - 2 LAYERS:

1 1/3 c. sugar
1/2 c. lard or butter
1 c. milk
2 1/4 c. flour
3 tsp. baking powder
1 tsp. vanilla
3 or 4 egg whites, beaten stiff

Mix together and bake in 2 layers at 350 degrees.
