CURRANT SCONES 
2 c. flour
1/4 c. white sugar
1/2 tsp. salt
2 1/2 tsp. baking powder
1 c. buttermilk (approx.)
1/2 tsp. baking soda
1/4 c. shortening
1/4 c. currants

Sift dry ingredients; cut in shortening. Add currants and milk (dough should be of a sticky consistency). Turn onto well floured board and knead about 1 minute; cut into rounds and bake on ungreased sheet 12 to 15 minutes at 450 degrees. Use large cookie sheet.
